Day by Day:
Opening Up

A few honest thoughts from Frostbyte about heartbreak, healing, and finding your way forward.

Frostbyte with a friend at Anthrocon

So I met, what I am to believe, my soulmate at Anthrocon 2024. We broke up this past April. It’s been a very trying, emotional time for me, but day by day—getting through it all. We’re still close friends, and I still love him so much; pretty sure I’m still in love with him.

Launching off all of that, a bit of advice to you younger furs: heartbreak in this life is inevitable. Sometimes falling in love hits you out of nowhere and you can’t control it—and many times, you may fall in love with someone who doesn’t return the feelings or is not available. And I know you will see so many posts around the internet about guarding your heart, doing no contact, or leaving social media. That’s all fine and good, but it’s much easier said than done.

So I’ll say this: do what’s best for you. Of course listen to close friends and loved ones, but you have no obligation to take every word they say as your truth. I’ve found myself really leaning into close friends, who have been absolutely amazing to me. I can’t do no contact; we’re still friends, and I still worry and care about him so much that I couldn’t do that if I tried. As for social media—yeah, I can’t stay away from that either, but I do try to stick to the happier parts and scroll past the doom-and-gloom parts. Cat videos, reunion videos, and the little things.

Make sure you give yourself time to grieve and cry. There’s nothing wrong with being an emotional wreck for a little bit of your day; just don’t let it swallow you up. Find the littlest part of your day that makes you smile, and hang on to that. Rely on close friends. I know that may be a luxury some don’t have, but look for anyone willing to just listen and offer a shoulder. Get comfortable with yourself; in the end, it’s all you really have. Know you are one of a kind and beautiful. There is no one out there like you.

Just a few words from an older Snep :)
